Would you hire outside staff?

I will never enter a discussion board which employs inexperienced strangers that have not made a significant contribution to the forum and understands how the community socialises. Outside staff often only want the position for the new rank bar or their new assigned account power/privileges - it's not worth risking the site's reputation.

Sometimes its best to bring an outsider in. Jobs do this all the time. The person may bring lots of new ideas for the forum.

Interesting. And how do you handle community backlash, from users who may (potentially) have been there for years, in comparison?
I'm not sure yet as I just opened up my first forum this past week  If the user on the forum deserves the job then they definitely should get it but if most users can't be that active in being on staff then someone outside should get the job if they can be more active.

Naw I would only hire from within. The person has to earn their worth to be on staff. If it's an outsider, they also have to prove themselves for awhile on the forum before they can become staff.
